Jo is a freelance designer and maker; based in her London workshop, she produces models and puppets for UK based and international productions. She studied Theatre Design at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, graduating with First Class Honours in 2010. She was awarded The Phillip and Christine Carne Prize for Theatre Design, and The Paul Kimpton Prize for Innovation.
Puppet making credits include: Puppet supervisor, The Wizard of Oz and 101 Dalmatians (BirminghamREP). Puppet maker, Circus 1903 (Significant Object), The Four Seasons (Gyre and Gimble), Alice’s Adventures Underground (Les Enfants Terribles), Le Rossignol and the Puppet Monologues (Blind Summit) and Crow (Handspring UK).
Puppet design credits include, puppet co-designer and supervisor for The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Birmingham REP), Mansfield Park (Waterperry Opera Festival), Pinocchio (The Castle Theatre Wellingborough), Noye’s Fludde (Aldeburgh Music for the Britten Centenary Festival) and Hansel and Gretel (Iford Arts Opera Festival). Jo also built the puppets for all of these productions.
Jo is an experienced model maker and has assisted various theatre designers such as Francis O'Connor, Rhys Jarman and, most frequently, Jamie Vartan.
Jo also has experience teaching and facilitating workshops. Most recently she ran three days of shadow puppetry at the Fairwater Pottery in Cardiff as part of local charity Vision 21's Creative Choices summer school program for young people with additional learning needs.
