About

Jo is a freelance designer and maker; based in her workshop at Hotel Elephant in London, she produces models and puppets for UK based and international productions. She studied Theatre Design at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, graduating with First Class Honours in 2010. Upon graduating she was also awarded The Phillip and Christine Carne Prize for Theatre Design, and The Paul Kimpton Prize for Innovation.

She has worked with leading puppetry companies such as Significant Object (Circus 1903 2016; The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe 2015), Blind Summit (Le Rossignol, Bregenz Opera Festival 2014; The Puppet Monologues, Suspense Festival, Pleasance Theatre 2013; research and development work collaborating with Pinto y Pollak Dance Company, Tel Aviv 2013) and Handspring UK (Crow2012).  Other puppet design and making credits include: the 101 Dalmatians, Birmingham REP Theatre 2017;  Les Enfants Terribles'  Alice's Adventures Underground Waterloo Vaults 2017; Pinocchio, The Castle Theatre Wellingborough 2014; Noye’s Fludde, Aldeburgh Music for the Britten Centenary Festival 2013; Hansel and Gretel, Iford Manor 2011; Catching Father Christmas, Gomito Productions, ArtsDepot Theatre 2010.

Jo is an experienced model maker and has assisted various theatre designers such as Francis O'Connor, Rhys Jarman and, most frequently, Jamie Vartan.

Jo also has experience teaching and facilitating workshops. Most recently she ran three days of shadow puppetry at the Fairwater Pottery in Cardiff as part of local charity Vision 21's Creative Choices summer school program for young people with additional learning needs.
